FOOD IN THE FUTURE: PLANKTON PIE OR CARROT CAKE?
This event is organised in by
members of Transition Cambridge Food and Farming Group.
We discuss the possible route
for future food production in a world with a changing climate, growing population and decreasingfossil fuel
reserves.
Can large scale specialised
farms, which have seen great successes, be adapted to continue to provide
for us into the future, or will growing social change drive farms towards
downsizing, urbanisation of food production, diet change, and
reorganisation of local food networks?
What balance of strategies
along this spectrum will be needed to provide sufficient food with a low
impact in years to come? Bring all your questions for the speakers in the
panel debate, then choose from two workshops to discuss your ideas in
more detail: "What is the role of science in the future of farming?"
or "Increasing
food security in Cambridge".
Guest panel speakers will be:
- Tomas Remiarz, practicing permaculturalist and Permaculture Association polyculuture research
leader
- Bill Clark, director of
agricultural research station
Broom’s Barn and EU ENDURE crop research steering group
- Local Cambridgeshire organic
farmer tbc - Sustainable agriculture academic tbc
